Our Initiatives

The Joseph & Vera Douglas Family Foundation (JVDFF) is dedicated to strengthening individuals, families, and communities through initiatives focused on education, health and wellness, women's empowerment, basic needs support, and disaster relief. Guided by a commitment to service, compassion, and opportunity, the Foundation works to remove barriers, improve quality of life, and create pathways for people to thrive.

  • We support educational success in Jamaica from early childhood through tertiary education. Through investments in safe and healthy learning environments, essential resources for teachers and students, and materials that promote social-emotional development, we help create opportunities for academic and personal growth. We also provide professional development opportunities for educators and work to remove barriers that may prevent students from accessing and completing their education, helping to build stronger futures for Jamaica's next generation.

  • We are committed to promoting holistic health and wellness, with a strong emphasis on mental health awareness, education, and support. Through workshops, community outreach, resource sharing, and wellness-centered programming, we work to reduce stigma, increase access to information, and empower individuals to prioritize their emotional, mental, and physical well-being. By fostering healthy communities and encouraging open conversations about mental health, we help individuals and families build resilience and thrive.

  • We provide timely assistance to individuals, families, and communities affected by natural disasters and other emergencies. Through the distribution of essential supplies, emergency resources, and recovery support, we help address immediate needs while contributing to long-term recovery efforts. By partnering with local organizations and community leaders, we deliver compassionate support to those facing crisis and help communities rebuild with hope and resilience.

  • Our Comfort Closets initiative provides free hygiene products and essential personal care items to students, individuals experiencing homelessness, and youth in state care. By ensuring access to basic necessities, the program helps preserve dignity, improve well-being, and remove barriers that may impact school attendance, academic performance, and overall quality of life. Through community partnerships and donations, Comfort Closets offer practical support to individuals facing hardship while fostering a sense of care and belonging.

  • Our Safety Workshops for Women equip women and girls with practical knowledge, skills, and resources to enhance their personal safety and confidence. Through educational sessions, expert-led training, and community partnerships, participants learn strategies for situational awareness, violence prevention, self-advocacy, and personal empowerment. These workshops are designed to help women navigate everyday situations with greater confidence while promoting safer communities for all.

  • Our mission in action projects reflect our commitment to educating minds, supporting wellness, empowering women, preserving dignity, and responding to communities in times of crisis.  MIA Projects are selected based on a thoughtful balance of prevention, intervention, and long-term impact.
